By Past Fire Chief Robert Crowe
January 13, 2019

Canton Fire and Rescue was dispatched auto aid with Pyrites Fire at 1137 for a reported structure fire at 3098 CR 21. Engine 7 responded at 1143 and arrive on scene at 1148 to find a working fire in a two stall detached garage. While enroute the crew was advised that there 12 German shepherds on scene who could be less than friendly. Four of the dogs met us in the driveway but caused no issues. The crew stretched a 2 1/2 to try and knock down the bulk of the fire. Pyrites arrived shortly thereafter and fed Engine 7 with the 5" LDH that had been hand stretched back down the driveway. Additional hand lines were stretched by crews from Rescue 1, Tanker 20, Rescue 36 and the fire knocked down. Water was supplied via tanker shuttle from a hydrant near the Augsbury Complex on Park Street in the village. Tankers from Canton, Pyrites, Hermon, and Russell all aided in shuttling water to the scene. Ambulance 132 stood by at the scene in case they were needed. There were no injuries and crews managed to remove a car and some equipment from the area of the fire building. A number of goats were also removed from an adjacent building and moved to safety. Units were back in service at 1500 hours. Temperatures at the time of the fire hovered near 0°F. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Pyrites Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit.

Units: Engine 7 (Crowe), TA-20 (M. Dalton), Rescue 1 (Grandaw), Rescue 36 (Holcomb), Ambulance 132 (Stacy)
