Canton Fire and Rescue Responds to Assist NYS DEC

Fire Chief Robert Crowe, October 22

Canton Fire and Rescue were dispatched at 0948 hours to 139 CR 35 to assist Forest Rangers from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation with an illegal outside fire. Engine 7 and Tanker 20 were enroute shortly thereafter. On arrival, units found an old garage that had been knocked down into a pile and set ablaze. Lowes Donates Smoke Dectectors

As part of their community outreach, Lowe's of Potsdam recently made a donation of 100 smoke detectors to Canton Fire and Rescue. This donation will assist the department's successful fire prevention program in providing smoke detectors to those in our response area who may not have a working smoke detector in their home. Extrication Training

Past Fire Chief Michael Morgan, October 17

On October 13, members of Canton Fire & Rescue, along with members of Pyrites Fire, conducted a vehicle extrication drill. The drill was held at Boyden Brook Body Works. Many thanks to Jim Rose for again providing vehicles for training. The drill was led by 2nd Assistant Chief Dan Aldous.

Auto Aid to Pyrites for Working Fire

Canton Fire and Rescue were toned out at 1908 hours for an auto aid to Pyrites Fire for a reported structure fire at 333 Pink Schoolhouse Road. Second Assistant Chief Dan Aldous advised that he was enroute and there was a large header of smoke visible from the Village. He requested mutual aid from Russell Fire and Hermon Fire for tankers. Year of service awards were given to Nick Maneely (5 years), Tyler Clark (10 years), Mike Dalton (25 years) and Bob Crowe (25 years).
